How to Protect RFID Credit Cards

Embedded RFID cards use radio frequencies to transmit data. These cards have been used in Europe for many years,
but are only just beginning to be used in the United States. The idea is that consumers should be able to use these cards in stores and restaurants
to pay for purchases without having to swipe the card through a scanner. However, many people fear that RFID technology could also allow thieves to use scanners to intercept
radio waves and steal card information. While technology has brought significant improvements in security over the past few years, some concerns remain.

Be careful and change your habits

Place your RFID cards next to each other in your wallet. This can make it more difficult for thieves to read a particular card, but the protection is limited.
Carry your RFID cards in a front pocket. If you usually carry your credit cards in a wallet in your back pocket, you are potentially more vulnerable to thieves who might come up behind you with a scanning device.

If you put the cards in a pocket before you will tend to be more aware of the people in front of you and you are less likely to be victimized.
Be aware of other people around you when using your cards credit. Some of the newer RFID technologies limit the ability for thieves to scan your cards over short distances and only at the point of sale.
Before using your card in a store, check around you that no one is within a few meters of you and that your transaction must be secure.

Monitor your credit card statements for pattern activity or errors.

This may not stop thieves from stealing your card information, but monitoring your statements regularly will help you and the credit card company
identify any unauthorized purchases. permitted and may limit your potential losses.

Some sources claim that regularly monitoring your credit card statements
is actually the "best" protection against identity theft.

Buy an RFID protective wallet
or sleeve for credit cards.

Limit Wi-Fi purchases. Since anything wireless is potentially subject
to hackers finding a way to intercept the radio signal, your safest
method of doing shopping online involves using a wired Internet connection.
