Is the mobile phone or GSM dangerous?

Position of the Foundation on the availability of 5G (April 2020) We have no hindsight and therefore no scientific studies on humans that would make it possible to establish a link between cancers and 5G.

The effects of a potential carcinogen are usually only observed after exposure for decades, i.e. 20 or 30 years.

Should all suspected potential carcinogens be banned in principle? precaution?

That seems unrealistic.

The IARC (or IARC) offshoot of the WHO is continuously studying and establishing a list of carcinogenic agents:

to date, 120 have been confirmed, group A 83 are probably carcinogenic to humans, group 2A 314 are possibly carcinogenic, group 2B https://monographs.iarc.fr/fr/agents-classes-par -les-monographies-du-circ-2/

The vast majority of them, apart from asbestos, group 1 agents, whose links are absolutely proven, are not subject to ban.

In 2011, the IARC classified radio waves sequences related to mobile phones in group 2B, i.e. possibly carcinogenic to humans.

The conclusion of the symposium we organized a few years ago on environment and health, (before 5G but with at least 20 years of use of mobile phones) , Dr. Vanderstaeten's conclusion was that:

“In reality, there is no clear 'yes' or 'no' answer to the question 'Exposure to RF electromagnetic fields from communication systems without wire harmful to health?', although many 'independent international expert groups' believe that there is no serious indication of harm.

That's reassuring , especially since after years of use, no clear indication of health damage has been found in the event of compliance with the recommendations issued by national and international bodies.

But of u n the other hand, we do not yet know enough about the consequences of the current exposure of a lifetime and on the whole population to RF radiation from wireless communication systems to be able to say definitively. »

The most comprehensive and recent study on the dangers of the mobile phone (GSM), called Interphone, was carried out by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). survey focused on patients with glioma (a type of brain tumor), meningioma (tumor of the meninges), acoustic neuroma (benign tumor of the acoustic nerve) and tumor of the salivary gland. These people and members of a control group were asked about their mobile phone usage habits.

The results, published in May 2010 , do not establish an indisputable link between brain tumors and the use of mobile phones. But the waves emitted by mobile phones are classified by the IARC in the category of possible carcinogens. Research must therefore be continued, because the mobile phone is used more and more and habits related to mobile telephony are changing, especially among young people. In this perspective, the European Union is funding a new study project on the risk of brain tumors in children and adolescents who use mobile phones.

Precautions

The Interphone Study concerns relatively few people who have been using mobile phones for ten years or more. So the results tell us little about the long-term effects, because cancer preparation times can be much longer. Research must therefore be continued over a longer period and with a larger sample of people. In the meantime, here are some safety tips:

Do not put the mobile phone near sensitive parts of the body, such as the genitals (or the belly in pregnant women). The headset limits exposure to the head.

Avoid long conversations, especially in areas with poor reception. Indeed, the mobile phone then automatically increases its transmission power.

Do not use the mobile phone in the car or on the train. Indeed, the mobile then automatically searches for new base stations, using maximum power for this.

Use your mobile wisely: avoid unnecessary calls and do not prolong the conversation. The children will reserve the mobile phone for strictly essential contacts. Some experts recommend that children under 12 should not be allowed to use cell phones.
